Wordless Wednesday!

This is what happens when your daughter plays kitchen with her toy pans and actually puts them in the oven.

  2. Oh no! Our oven is weird - it's way up off the ground. Hopefully she'll know better once she's...14. I'm barely tall enough for it!

  3. That has happened to us SO many times over the years, you would think we would learn!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yikes! Reminds me of my tiny studio in Boston...it was so small that I would store stuff in the oven! Luckily I didn't cook much back then!

  5. She can play at my house - I don't use my over - lol

  6. My twins both went through that same stage too. My daughter was putting stuff in our toilet though.

When we were first married, I kept tupperware containers in the oven and what a mess to clean when my hubby pre-heated the oven :)

  8. LoL .This is something my daughter might do so i can relate. Thank you for reminded me.

  9. I have yet to meet a mother, my own and myself included, who hasn't had this happen - either with pretend cookware, or something similar (in my mom's case it was Legos, in mine it was a toothbrush?!). That stuff is a total pain in the ass to get off - but at least once it hardens you can crack it apart. Best of luck with clean up!

  10. Oh wow...I'm sure the smell was lovely if it was plastic!

  11. Oh no!! Totally something my kids would do!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Been there done that before-I try not to put anything in the oven for that reason;but sometimes I have to hide things-oops!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Yep done that before! With lots of tupperware :) Very expensive lesson that one was :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh no!!! I bet that was hard to clean up!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yikes! I wouldn't think to check before preheating. Cute but messy!

  16. Funny!!! I have often turned my oven on and haven't look inside and I have melted some spatulas. we usually have a frying pan and plastic spatula in the oven that we use for eggs in the morning. oops

    ReplyDelete
  17. I have done it myself! I store our cast iron in the over and never seem to remember to take it out first!

  18. OH NO!! I am so glad you caught it when you did. My sister burned her kitchen down cause she was preheating the oven for a pie and forgot she has stored tupperware in there.

  19. Oh dear, I hate the smell of burning plastic. I hope she learned her lesson, these things are dangerous.

  20. I too have done it :/ pizza boxes, toys, cakes....

    ReplyDelete
  21. This too has happened to me. I hope your daughter also learned not to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oops! That's a good reminder! My husband will sometimes put food in the oven to keep it warm and then forget about it. I don't find it until I turn on the oven and smell something cooking before I've put food in!

  23. My little one is starting to get into things and this is something I am worried about, but I've learned to check by my husband has "stored" pans in there and I've turned it on without checking and smelled something rancid after a while lol.

  24. I have learned over the years not only to check the oven before I turn it on but also to look in the toilet before I go to the bathroom and then flush. I have found small toys from the little ones down in the water. Nothing is worse to me then reaching in and grabbing a toy before it has a chance to go down and clog up the whole system.

  25. LOL! I can relate... and check my oven b/4 turning it on.

  26. Maybe I can use that as a ploy to get my husband to buy me a new stove. Think it will work? lol

  27. This is the lesson that all moms need to learn! :-)

  28. Been there and done that! Lol, but I've done it more than once! You'd think I'd learn!

  29. My daughter has done this as well, now that she has her own small little kitchen she knows better...I know the feeling

  30. Oh, no! Another Mommy Lesson Learned! :)

  31. Boy do I know about melting stuff in the oven! I was letting my dough rise for making cinnamon rolls and I forgot to turn off the preheated oven, and I came back, and the whole bowl melted! Awful, I had to throw out the rack! I could not get it clean!

  32. Oh nice!!!! Kids..................

  33. This has happened to me when my fiance has left pans and spatulas in the oven and they melted. Now I always remember to check.

I always check my oven since I learned the scary way many years ago my ex was mad at me for kicking him out & I had came home from work sat down while my pizza was cooking when my oven caught fire big flames and all. After it was put out my landlord found a phone & its base in my broiler. My ex set it in there to catch fire, cut the phone lines in my house, and put sticks around the base of my hot water heater where the flame was. I now check for fire hazards all the time!

  35. lol! I bet that smelled wonderful while the oven heated up. YUM!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Understand completely!!! My daughter and I have to remember this too. But we store our skillets in the oven. You always want to check before baking. Hope it didn't ruin your day and hers!

  37. wow - lucky for me my daughter's never done that!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh, wow! Good thing my 3.5 year old hasn't thought of that YET, thanks for the heads up! I'll check my oven now :) She has a play kitchen, but you never know!

    ReplyDelete
  39. My mom used to always hide things in the oven when she was tidying up - so to this day I always check before I turn it on even though I don't do that!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh my word! Too funny! Thanks for the heads up- I store stuff in my oven too!

  41. lesson learned, check oven, then preheat

    ReplyDelete
  42. My husband does this all the time. We were making dinner for friends as it was their sons birthday party. Nothing big, just a taco bake. My husband pre-heated their oven with their sons birthday cake in it. LOL! ALL the icing melted INTO the cake. Sadly it turned out sorta caramalized and our family does it on purpose now cause it was actually pretty good. :)

  43. Aw man! A similar thing happened with my mom... only it was her fault this time. She left her plastic yellow Tupperware colander on her electric stove's back burner. She went to cook something on the front one and accidentally turned on the rear...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Haha! It could be worse. My husband did this once but it was an old bakin pan he left in there unbenouced to me and I turned the oven on to preheat. See it doesn't have to be a child, could be an adult acting like a child.

    ReplyDelete
  45. LOL! Touch wood - this hasn't happened to me... YET!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I have put pans in the oven because I ran out of storage space and then forgotten they were in there when I went to bake something, so yes, this can happen to anyone! Thanks for this great post!

  48. omg, LOL! It's not funny but it is! B/c I thought this kind of thing only happened to me! :) Aww, poor mom. Any advicr on how to remove melt plastic cup from dishwasher heat coil (that thing at very bottom)? Anyway, thx for sharing.

  49. How funny! I remember the first time I saw someone store things in their oven. I thought they were nuts lol. My mom never put stuff in hers to store, so I had no idea people did that! Thankfully, my kids are too old to do that anymore :)

  50. I had something similar happen. We had hidden some toys from our little brother and I didn't know. What a mess to clean up.

  51. Aww, I hope she wasn't too upset. :-(

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh my, I can only imagine the smell, I will remember to check oven before turning on because this would not be fun at dinner time.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Oh no! Glad no harm was done. Hope it didn't smell too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I put some cupcakes in my convection oven so the furbabies wouldn't get into them...well, fiance preheated the oven for supper without opening it first so we had twice baked cupcakes with baked icing...needless to say, we didn't eat them.
Lesson learned. Haha. Glad you caught it before it was burning.

  55. Monkey see...monkey do! :) I have done this...opps. Thank goodness no harm.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I always forget to check too.

I'm sure clean up is going to be a blast. Good luck to you!

  59. But the oven is such a good place to hide things when unexpected company comes. I do remember to check before pre-heating.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh no! I have never done this before but did ruin a batch of fruit leather once. MY foster mom however left a container inside her oven with rice krispies in it and turned it on. Super messy to clean up!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Oh my goodness! Actually, looks like something my husband would do! lol

    ReplyDelete
  62. Oh my!! Things like that ALWAYS happen in my house. I know I should check first but I rarely do. Ugh..*face palm*

    ReplyDelete
  63. Reminds me of the Modern Family episode where the mom stores quilts in the oven because they actually never use it to cook! lol

    ReplyDelete
  64. Lesson learned and a story for years to come! I learned to check everything- dryer, washing machine, oven, microwave....

    ReplyDelete
  65. I actually did this too! My husband stuck a cake on a plastic tray in the oven so the cats wouldn't get it. A day or so later, I preheated the oven, opened it to stick my casserole in there.... plastic had melted everywhere! What a mess!!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Oh no! My 15 month old daughter puts our kitty in her toy oven. I hope she never figures out how to get the real oven open! I'll have to make sure I check it every time I want to bake something!!
